There are a number of species of Ticks found in Virginia including the Lonestar Tick, the Blacklegged Tick (also known as the Deer Tick), the American Dog Tick and the Asian Longhorn Tick. The areas of Virginia where these ticks are active varies. While the majority of tick species are very active during warm weather, several are active during the fall and winter. It is important to note that ticks may transmit disease at any stage of life, from larval to adult. However, not every tick bite will cause illness.
