The Bedford Extension Master Gardeners have been busy preparing for our annual PLANT SALE which takes place THIS Saturday, April 29th from 9am – 1pm, at the Cooperative Extension Office, 1257 County Farm Rd. in Bedford, VA. We have a large variety of plants, including VEGETABLES, HERBS, ANNUALS, PERENNIALS and MORE! This year, for the first time, we are offering tomatoes grown from seed developed by the Dwarf Tomato Project. Varieties include: 1. Solanum lycopersicum ‘Dwarf Stony Brook Speckled’, a Roma type tomato that grows 3-4’ tall, and produces a mild flavored, 3-6 oz. fruit that is scarlet in color, with jagged golden stripes. 2. Solanum lycopersicum ‘Mallee Rose’, this dwarf plant produces 5-14 oz. fruit that are slightly ribbed, with an oblate-shape. These tomatoes are juicy, meaty, and have a sweet flavor. 3. Solanum lycopersicum ‘Summer Sweet Gold’, produces a smooth, yellow, oblate-shaped fruit, with wonderful flavor. The fruit weight averages 6-14 oz. 4. Solanum lycopersicum ‘Dwarf Sonrojo Monster’ grows 36” tall and requires sturdy support for its 8-18 oz. fruit. 5. Solanum lycopersicum ‘Dwarf Zoe’s Sweet’. This dwarf tomato grows 4-5’ tall and requires support also. The fruit is pink and oblate shaped and weighs 8-18 oz. 6. Solanum lycopersicum ‘Dwarf Desert Star’, a pale yellow cherry tomato with a balanced, sweet flavor. It grows 3-4′ tall.
We also have a wonderful selection of items that are being raffled. The raffle drawing will take place at 12:30pm.
